About the exhibition “Gustave Caillebotte. Painting men”.

Everybody knows this painting: a couple walking arm-in-arm under a large black umbrella through a Parisian street recently reconstructed by Eugène Baron Haussmann. It is a rainy day and a new cobblestone boulevard is shining. We are in Paris, in 1877.

But except this iconic painting, what do we know about the artist who created it and his legacy?

It looks like Gustave Caillebotte is a lesser – known impressionist artist. Unfairly.

I invite you to discover through some 70 pieces of art: paintings, photographs, drawings and pastels a unique blend of a talented artist and human figures he painted.

I will be happy to take you through this extraordinary exhibition.

About Orsay museum

The Musée d’Orsay is located in the heart of Paris, in one of the most coveted and elegant neighborhoods of the Left Bank: Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Its magnificent structure and great dial stand along the Seine River, the vertebral column of the city. Facing the great river, the Tuileries Gardens, and the Louvre — once the French king’s residence in the 14th century and now home to one of the biggest art collections in the world — the Musée d’Orsay situates itself as a significant and emblematic monument in the French capital.

Orsay’s collection is made up of work from the Louvre, the Musée de Jeu de Paume, the Musée du Luxembourg, and the Museum Of Modern Art and retraces art history from 1848 to 1914. Most notably, its halls are home to the richest impressionist collection in the world, which allows us to follow this important European artistic movement from its origins to its fulfillment at the end of the 19th century.
